I am also a physiotherapist!
After 6 years of working in the public and private health care systems, I started a
small independent practice to treat people in my community.
Who?
My name is Marika Schwandt. I have a BSc in physiotherapy and an MSc in rehabilitation science. I have been practicing since 2003 in both hospitals and private clinics, and taught from 2006-2008 in the physiotherapy program at the University of Toronto.
What?
Physiotherapy helps manage and prevent problems caused by illness, disease, injury, aging, and inactivity. After assessing you, I will use manual therapy, exercise (assisted and/or independent), and activity modification to treat your problem and manage your pain. I
have advanced post-graduate training in the treatment of neurological conditions (stroke, MS, brain injury) and urinary incontinence (pre- and post-natal, age- and stress-related). I am also skilled in the assessment and treatment of repetitive strain injuries, dance injuries, and sports injuries. Exercise prescription is my specialty - I am prepared to crack the (restorative, therapeutic) whip!
When?
My schedule is flexible. Appointments can be arranged on most weekdays, evenings or weekends. Initial assessment/treatment takes 1 hour and follow-up takes 30 minutes or 1 hour, depending on your needs.
Where?
In my downtown/west end home (easy TTC access to Dundas and Dufferin, short flight of stairs at the door); in your home (within geographical limits that I will set); or at your fitness centre/community centre/gym/YMCA.
How?
Call me: 416-835-9575
Why?
We all get broken sometimes. Repairing your body is always a wise investment - let me work with you to put your body in an ideal state for healing.
Rates:
Initial assessment (1 hour), follow-up treatment (1 hour): $60 at my home, $80 at yours
Follow-up treatment (30 minutes): $45 at my home, $60 at yours
You will receive an official receipt to submit with your insurance and/or income tax claims. Physiotherapy is covered by most workplace and private insurance plans, and is fully tax-deductible. Dancers and actors remember, you may be covered by Equity for physiotherapy!
Also consider shiatsu and acupuncture for your pain relief and symptom management needs - Eastern medicine can often address things that Western medicine can’t. I suggest Six Degrees Community Acupuncture - see www.pokeme.ca for information.
